Timeboxing
Definition
Timeboxing is a practice of allocating a specific amount of time to accomplish a specific task. It exists as a practice to commit time and focus to accomplishing goals. Timeboxing aids in resource allocation because it limits practitioners from over-working and over-committing to a task and also serves to remind what is currently being worked on and prioritization of tasking. It can be published so that others are aware of your tasking as well.
5 Steps to incorporate timeboxing
- Choose a system or app that will help you timebox.
- Define the tasks that you need to get done.
- Block the time on your calendar
- Every morning, make sure you have all the hours you want to dedicate to work blocked with relivent tasks
- Work following your calendar, no questions, no exceptions.
notes
Try and be considerate of the time to commit to prepare and handle after matters for time boxes. Maybe plan to start meetings late to afford time for others.
Treat recreational activities as though they were tasks to accomplish as well. Give gym, relaxation, and breaks their own time boxes and take this time seriously to relax.
