Definition

An Architecture Decision Record (ADR) is a document that captures an important architectural decision made during the development of a project. It describes the context of the decision, the decision itself, and the consequences of the decision. ADRs are used to document the rationale behind architectural decisions, making it easier for team members to understand the reasoning behind those decisions and to evaluate the impact of changes to the architecture.
